Come on now

A photo entitled 'Profile': a profile of someone with a 5x4 camera's darkcloth draped over their head, the red underside on top, gleaming under a studio light, against a black background.

Hello.

My plan, such as it is, is to post about reading and writing and other things that take my interest, on a roughly monthly basis.

This may include photography, horror, psychoanalysis, updates on my own publications, and chronic illness. The last of these – I have M.E. – has derailed previous efforts in this regard, so we'll see how it goes. Eight week & five days ago, as I write, my partner & I welcomed a son into the world, so this may also affect things. The signal effect on my writing, thus far, has been to drastically increase it, which is strange. I have less time and so less time to put things off. And new fears seem to bloom almost hourly, useful material for the sort of thing I write.

The thought of panning for subscriptions fills me with dread, so most if not all of this will be free.

I also hope to post stories and audio recordings of stories, which may or may not be paywalled. Perhaps I'll try and sell some prints.

All of this is subject to change.

Here's the author bio that usually appears below my fiction:

Seán Padraic Birnie is from Brighton. His debut collection of short stories, I WOULD HAUNT YOU IF I COULD, was published by Undertow Publications in 2021. His work has appeared in Best British Short Stories, Interzone, Fictionable, and Cōnfingō. He is on Bluesky & Instagram @seanbirnie. For more information, see seanbirnie.com.

A photograph that forms a diptych with the picture above. A large-format camera on a tripod has the same darkcloth draped over it. Below, the studio light picks out one tripod leg and the dangling metal button of a cable release.
