Sean Padraic Birnie is one of the best short story writers working in the UK right now. His carefully constructed and meticulously observed tales navigate a line between social observation, body horror and existential doubt, often locating a profound sense of dread in the most mundane realities of everyday life. In Birnie's hands the world we inhabit is revealed to be far stranger than we ever knew.

Ben Tufnell, author of The North Shore and Paradise.

I'm a writer & photographer from Brighton.

This blog concerns writing, horror fiction, chronic illness (I have M.E.), and related themes.

My debut collection of short stories, I Would Haunt You if I Could, was published by Undertow Publications in 2021. My work has appeared in publications such as Best British Short Stories, The Year's Best Dark Fantasy & Horror, Interzone, ergot., Fictionable, and Cōnfingō. I am on Bluesky & Instagram @seanbirnie.

A complete list of my publications is available here.

Both free & paid subscriptions are available. I plan to eventually add short stories in the form of posts, .pdfs, .epubs, and audio performances, and make and sell physical chapbooks and zines. If you come across a paywalled digital item, which you want but are unable to afford, please contact me and I'll get it to you, no questions asked.
